I fixed it by clicking on the 3 dots on the "pop-up" and options came up to turn off all notifications in Microsoft Edge, when I did that the "pop-up's" stopped. I have changed all the relevant settings to stop Pop Ups but still hourly receive McAfee pop ups like this. I have uninstalled the McAfee software and have installed other Virus software but I continually get these pop ups.

I know that I can stop them on my Mac. To disable the notifications:. Similar thing happened on my wife's computer. One point I will add to the above: website popup notifications are often made to look like legitimate Windows notifications and hence it is hard to tell if it is real one or not. For Edge pop-up notifications, EACH of them contained the name of the website under the notification which helped me identify them as such.

All "scary" notifications contained the same website name. When you get into this state or you are reading this because you "googled it", the key is not to interact with the notification do not click on "remove virus" or whatever it might say and understand where it might be coming from. Then going into the Edge settings and seeing that you may have a recent website added with "allow notifications" on it. If you get notifications just after restarting the computer with no browsers running or anything else explicitly started, you may have some of the bloatware installed often comes with the new computer itself and these might be legit notifications.

You may find there some notification programs that bring reminders to install additional software. Disabling them will stop notifications. Couple of thoughts: 1. Cheers, Drew. Replies 17 Views 7K. You can take control of programs that automatically launch every time you log in, kill applications that are hung, and consider whether you need apps listed as heavy resource consumers. Just one more thing as Columbo would say : On several occasions while using the program, I encountered a link to try Gemini, an app designed to save space by eliminating duplicate files. The suggestion to try Gemini also appeared as the final advice pane in the Assistant.

With its colorful backgrounds and attractive pages, CleanMyMac is a lot better-looking than the average macOS antivirus. It also boasts a wide range of features for tuning and cleaning your Mac. Nor does it attempt to detect Windows malware. Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac earned perfect scores from two labs. They also earned excellent scores in our hands-on tests. Bitdefender and Kaspersky cost about the same as CleanMyMac.

Norton costs more, but gives you five security suite licenses, five VPN licenses, and 50GB of online storage for your backups. Unless your focus is system cleanup rather than security, one of these will be a better choice. Fair 2. Bottom Line CleanMyMac boasts a colorful, cheerful user interface and a wide range of tools to clean and tune your Mac. However, it lacks some features found in almost all competitors, the independent labs don't vouch for it, and the product's limitations meant we couldn't apply our usual hands-on tests.

Pros Fast install Quick malware scan Colorful, cheerful user interface Vulnerability scanner Effective cleanup and tuneup tools Cons No lab test results available No protection against malicious or fraudulent websites Our hands-on tests not applicable Most of the companies that develop antivirus software for the Mac are dedicated to security, with products including antivirus, security suites, VPNs, and the like.
