I will probably wait some beefier cards. NickJames Supreme [H]ardness. Joined Apr 28, Messages 6, How is it misleading? You have to pay the difference in cost going from an older lesser priced card to an expensive higher priced one.
I think it's an awesome deal for a card that out performs everything. MavericK Zero Cool. Joined Sep 2, Messages 31, You pay the difference in cost between the two cards plus shipping which that shipping charge is pretty high anyway. You don't just get better cards for free, lol. InCogneato [H]ard Gawd. Joined Nov 1, Messages 1, If you're too dumb to buy at the right time that is your fault. This service is a godsend and no one else let's you 1.
How can you complain about a company that gives you extra options others dont? This program isn't for dumb little kids who want to gain a lot while the company loses money.
This program is for people who feel that technology is always changing and they won't be PWND by a video card dropping a hundred dollars the week after they bought theirs. This is a program of confidence and peace of mind, its not a program for you to end up profitting at EVGA's expense. Get a life. Joined Sep 16, Messages 3, InCogneato said:. Really pissed off the EVGA lynch mob BaDave n00b. Joined Oct 5, Messages Just remember evga does not have to have the setup program. To some ppl it is worth it if the timing is right. The timing isnt right for you so dont complain. Show me another card supplier that does the set up? Man some ppl just dont get life.
Whine any reason they can. Please give me an example where someone benefited from this feature and how much money did you save? Joined Mar 14, Messages 5, Whipsmack said:.
Astral Abyss 2[H]4U. Joined Jun 15, Messages 2, Joined Apr 24, Messages Thanks to those that provided more insight and examples into this program. I think this program will come in handy later this summer or fall when I purchase an GTX. Should the series or whatever it will be called be released within 3 months of my purchase, I should be covered and enjoy top of the line gaming for that much longer. Gatticus [H]ard Gawd. There is no way in hell they are going to soak up a loss like that. They usually sell them as recertified cards that are carrying the 90 day warranty. Joined Aug 1, Messages 4, What I don't like about this step up program is that your current address has to match the one on your invoice.
So basically if you moved anytime after buying the card, you're SOL. Furthermore, voiding this option because someone RMA's a video card is a crappy way to get out of it--it's usually not the person's fault that eVGA sent out a shoddy card in the first place, why should the buyer be penalized for this?
I had to go through 3 cards to finally get one that isn't defective high pitch noise , fortunately I dealt with Newegg and not eVGA. Vuronev n00b. Joined Apr 30, Messages I too understand what the OP was trying to communicate. I certainly don't think evga is an evil company or anything like that.
I like their cards, like their policies, and have even used the step up before. However, the fact that they don't seem to ever lower their MSRP to reflect current market prices does make the value of the step up program alot less than they advertise it. It's not hard to run some numbers that show that even with a 3 month time gap, a person stepping up from one card to another will end up paying more than if they simply sold it on ebay for even a conservative price and put that towards the purchase of the card from an online vendor like newegg.
To say that someone is an idiot because they bought at the wrong time is pretty unfair as well. Yes, you can generally predict the movements of a cycle, but you can't pinpoint them perfectly. The stepup window is an exact time frame, you miss it by even a day and you risk losing that benefit even if the "best time" is a day or two away, no one has that kind of crystal ball power.
And for those of you saying that evga doesn't have to provide stepup and to stop whining, I suggest you look at the reality of the situation rather than as pure fan boys. Evga does not offer stepup out of the kindness of their heart like you guys seem to imply, you don't owe them any gratitude for it. They do it as a marketing ploy to gain customers over their competitors. They advertise the stepup program as a way of saving money when upgrading to a newer videocard in order to motivate people to buy evga.
Now, if the reality is that you don't actually save money by upgrading, then their marketing is completely self-serving and disingenuous. You can also see the old year and new seven-year warranty costs compared above. On the surface, these extended warranty price rises might simply be seen as another way for GPU vendors to make hay in the restricted and uncompetitive GPU market we are living in.
However, it could be a more worrying sign that EVGA isn't as confident in its product quality as it used to be. One only has to look at the recent tale of the dead GeForce RTX s, precipitated by poor soldering , for this sad spectre to loom large. A year earlier, a run of expensive GeForce RTX graphics cards were found to be crashing due to basic component choices. Whether this will push some potential buyers away from EVGA cards is unclear.
