It is already set for auto save if it is not then your HDD may not be plugged in all the way, try taking it off and putting it back on making sure it is secure and fitting tight. It's a shame for me, because SC4 has such perty characters and outfit possibilities, but the way items are unlocked in the game is WAY too hard for me. I loved the way it was done in SC3, with that special strategic game mode, and I ended up unlocking everything myself that way.
