The dev states in the help file that you won't need them as everything in the room description will suffice, but the problem is this leaves the game feeling bland as room descriptions often describe objects without letting you examine them for more game-enriching detail, which can especially help provide clues as to what to do in a particular room. There's also some obtuse darkness mechanics where in a couple areas entering a room at the wrong time leaves you trapped and lost in darkness, forcing a reload your escape spell won't work!
